Confession - I can't draw, I can't paint, I can't sew, I can't craft, I can't even pick out paint colors for my home without being in agony for weeks over the idea that I have to figure out what color would look good and after I finally do...I usually goofed....really!
I seriously can only do a few things well...I have freakishly good hand-eye coordination (don't take me on at a carnival game people)! I sometimes can do MacGyver-like things to make a thought or idea come to life. I am a good Mom & wife and I can cook.
That my friends, is pretty much it for me in the talent department.
I love to cook, it centers me and I guess in a way its my identifier.
My friends and family often joke that no one turns down an invitation to our house because they want to come and eat the food, lol!! Cooking is amazing to me, combine a bit of this with a bit of that and look what you get...something delicious!! I enjoy cooking for my family, cooking for others, planning party menu's and I especially LOVE cooking with my children.
I pour thought, excitement and love into what I make and when I see other happy as a result, it makes me happy!
I decided to start this blog as a way for me to leave a little tangible piece of myself for my children to have later in life. So many of my favorite memories happened in someone's kitchen. Now that I have a family of my own, this site is a way for me to chronicle my family's memories in the making :)
The other reason for starting this site is food connects people, it makes people happy and often it is memorable. I want to inspire others to step out of their comfort zone in the kitchen and try new things!! I truly believe that anyone can whip up great tasting food whenever they want. Some might have to plan it out a little more. some can do it on the fly. But I feel that if you want to make good food, fun food, food to wow a crowd...you can. Why not cook along with me and my family!
What's up with the name Souffle Bombay?
As is the norm for me when a party needs planning or a change is happening in my family, I called a family meeting...my husband, son, daughter and I sat around the kitchen table as I shared what I was about to do. I had spent hours thinking of names for the website and searching to see which of those were available. I had it narrowed down to about 10 names. I asked the kids if they had any ideas on what to call (not really expecting to get an answer "better" than the ones "I" had agonizingly crafted)when my 5 year old daughter Samantha (now 8), who happens to cook everything from eggs to grouper, instantly responded"SouffleBombay"!!
I was like "what"??? I literally had to have her say it 4 times before I understood what she was saying!
Samantha said "Mom" (like I should KNOW this) "Souffle Bombay" is oatmeal put inside a scooped out pumpkin!"... I was like what??? What??? Where did you hear that???
However I instantly fell in LOVE with the name...so there your have it!
About 6 months later I finally found out that "Hamilton the Pig", who is a chef on a cartoon for kids called Maggie and the Ferocious Beast, actually made a dish...just what my daughter said...on the show and called it a Souffle Bombay! I laugh every time I think of that!
I am completely in love with the fact that my little chef named this site!
Thanks so much for stopping by and I hope you find a few recipes to try out and enjoy with your family!
Enjoy & Happy Cooking!!
