Rose Romano's Gourmet Italian Peppers

I LOVE when I find a product, new to me or just new in general, that enhances my life in some way. Maybe it makes me makes me happy...Hello Ipod! Maybe it makes my life easier...after 2 c-sections gone awry...The Boppy was my favorite baby product! Often it's a food or spice mixture that gives me exactly the flavors I am looking for, one I feel good about using, that I didn't have to make, which ultimately saves me time and/or money! What's not to love about that??

Enter Rose Romano's Italian Gourmet Peppers These babies fit that bill completely for me!

"The creation of Rose Romano's Italian Gourmet Toppings is the natural culmination and marriage of my Italian heritage, my love of great food, and my background as a scientist and inventor. Rose Romano's Italian Gourmet Toppings are a low calorie, gluten-free, locally-sourced gourmet topping made with red or green bell peppers, used on pasta, vegetables, seafood, omelets and sandwiches".

-Dr. Marshall Agnotti, son of Rose Romano & creator of Rose Romano Gourmet Italian Peppers

Giveaway Alert!! Read on to find out how you can win 2 jars of both the red and the green peppers! 4 Jars total!!

I have shared before just how picky of an eater I am...For example...I don't want to eat mushrooms of any variety. Nor do I want to eat scallops, mussels, oysters (shudder), beets, salmon or a number of other things. However, I do make all of those and other foods for others with love...well...except oysters that is, I have sworn off ever being around them, I seriously can't take the smell of them, sorry mom! You can add peppers to that list...not jalapenos or other spicy peppers...just the green and red variety. I have never liked them, especially cooked. I have always said I can tell if one teeny-tiny piece of a cooked pepper is in something...yucko! My dad would often "contaminate his amazing omelettes with diced peppers (cringe) and my mom would sometimes make stuffed peppers - on both occasions I would either find something else to eat or just sit there with my mouth firmly sealed shut. It depended on my age at the time...lol!

My husband however LOVES peppers in any way, shape, or form, he loves sausage and peppers, peppers in a sauce, stuffed peppers, he enjoys them any way he can get them and so does just about everyone in our life.

When I was asked to try Rose Romano's Peppers, I thought sure! New products are always exciting to me and I knew my husband would probably enjoy them.

Little did I know the man would fall head over heels in love with them!

Andali Rigatoni

I looked over the recipes that came with my shipment of the peppers. Dr Angotti encourages you to use the peppers as a topping, the way they do in Italy, to enhance your dish.

My husband went bonkers for his first dinner that included the peppers. The first thing I made for him was Andali Rigatoni, a recipe shared on the Rose Romano's site found here.

I thought it would be fun to include some of the topping in another of my husbands favorites...Deviled Eggs. The color was pretty and the taste, my husband enjoyed.

Then, I decided to play around with the product, wondering how else I could use it in addition to a topping. I put it on eggs, in eggs and then made a dish that I have only ever seen my 100 year old grandmom make. In every way it was delicious according to my husband. Over the last 2 weeks, anytime he happened to smell these peppers wafting through our house, he got a bit lighter on his feet and happier. At one point while the Pork, Potatoes and Peppers were cooking he excitedly proclaimed that our house smelled just like Citizens Bank Park, home of the baseball team The Philadelphia Phillies...where his absoloute favorite sandwich is found...lol!

My grandmom has been making this dish since I can remember, she makes it with canned tomato sauce...usually a generic brand (since she is a child of the depression - she never buys anything fancy). She adds in chunks of potatoes, then a bit later boneless chunks of country style pork ribs to cook in the sauce. She really seasons up the sauce with salt, pepper a bit of sugar and a healthy dose of Cayenne pepper. I happen to begin it with a bit of olive oil & sautee up a good amount of garlic. I decided to throw in a jar of Rose Romano's peppers in for a more complex taste and it worked out great! Has anyone ever made a dish like this with poataoes and meat in sauce? I always wondered where it came from.

Bottom Line: These peppers make my husband SO happy and they make me happy because, I now have a fantastic shortcut to give him a flavor he adores! Thank you Dr A for a superior product...One that will become a staple in our home & will make my life easier!!
